The Power of Love

By Vivian Hildebrandt

You may remember the old song entitled “All You Need Is Love” that was popular in the l950’s. That sentiment touches something inside of us that wants to believe in the power of love. As we get older the realities we face in the “real world” start to emerge. Our awareness of needing material and other resources grows and our faith in the power of love somehow wanes.

All around us we see the realities of food, housing and work which are necessary to our well-being. We add to these the health of our families, communities, environment, and our countries and the world. When we see wars, pollution, gang involvement and political squabbling and dishonesty, “All you need is love” doesn’t seem relevant.

At the end of the day, however, we seek companionship, personal acknowledgement, and relationships that bring us camaraderie, respect, and yes, love. If we are to move into the joy of living that we all seek, we can benefit from understanding two things. First, the true reality of life is that its smallest atomic and subatomic structures, the building blocks of life, are endowed with the energy and vibration of love. The very heart of every earth and human element is created with love at its center and source. Is it any wonder we crave and seek love in our lives?

Second, the perceived realities of hardship, struggle, and striving that we experience in living life each day are a screen or filter calling us to access the truth of our beingness, the depth of our strength. We are called to bring forth the essence of love that we are, in order to meet each challenge and  to strengthen and expand the awareness of who we are and why we are here.

Just as physical exercise strengthens our muscles, so, too, the problems or concerns which may at times appear insurmountable are not punishments, but rather the daily exercises we need to shape our muscles of love, compassion and joy. We can learn to see the love interwoven in all people and experiences when we look beyond circumstances to view the heart.

The heart of all life surpasses all else in importance and power. We call this essence Brilliance, which reflects the image of the light we truly are. A human heartbeat can be detected through the thickest steel. The physical heart, too, has more melanin molecules – that give us our ability to feel –  than any other organ in the body. These are physical facts and this reality points to a power we often do not take seriously.

We have been born with everything necessary for us to make life’s journey of learning successful. We have been taught about our frailty, personality quirks and vulnerabilities, but that reality is incomplete. The universal energy of Brilliance at the heart of all life will sustain us. It is the same magnificence that resides in our friends, in those perceived as ‘enemies’, in everything on this planet and beyond.

It appears then that we only need to learn to access this power so we may complete our life lessons with happiness and success. Whenever our minds linger on the past, or the future, we tend to get lost. We quickly lose sight of our power. When we focus our attention on our problems, they grow. Likewise, when we give our energy to solutions, they flourish. We always have the choice to move in either direction. The shortcut is to release everything to our innate and universal Brilliance and then watch what happens. We will receive the next steps and the courage to move ahead.

Our lives here have personal and communal purpose. The vibrations we emit through our thoughts and actions affect everything, because we are co-creators of life. We are strong and powerful because of the Brilliance we embody and our job is to accept more and more of this love so we may build a new and better world for all.

This article is so true.. especially the part about how we often don’t take this power seriously. In a world where force tends to be the method of choice in dealing with diffeculties, it can be hard to envision how gentle, compassionate, loving exchange can produce win, win outcomes for all involved.
Yet, we are destined to see that the softer, subtle energies are often what is called for to penetrate the most stubborn obstacles. Our ancestors knew this which is why art, music and other creative modalities were revered in such a way. Like the trickle of water which carves the canyon in a mountain, love pierces through the tough armor we create around ourselves. So that we can give and receive fluidly, the way nature intended!
